Character Profiles

Picture
Kylie Griffin
Voice: Tara Charendoff (now Strong)
Kylie is a clever, feisty, tough and sarcastic Goth.  She also has a lot more than that beneath the surface, much of which she doesn't mind revealing, whether she's expressing her sorrow at the death of her Grandma Rose, fussing over her beloved cat Pagan or dredging up some difficult childhood memories with Roland in 'Grundelesque'.  She has a keen interest in the paranormal, and perhaps a little crush on Egon, which later extends to Ray Stantz in 'Back in the Saddle' and to non-scientist, older man Leonard Bates in 'Till Death Do Us Start'.  She squabbles a lot with Eduardo, as she apparently doesn't want to be attracted to him, even though she is (definitely!).  Kylie has several revealing episodes, and as her most revealing I have chosen 'Seeds of Destruction', which shows us some of the flaws in her character and some significant moments in the process of her growing up.
Picture
Roland Jackson
Voice: Alfonso Ribeiro
Roland is a very nice guy, and very clever.  Unfortunately he can come across as dull, which is a shame, because he has lovely qualities.  He is very competent when it comes to catching ghosts and understanding complicated equipment, and equally aware of the human aspect of ghostbusting, as he is always willing to offer a comforting word and a reassuring pat to distressed victims, particularly children.  He has a large family whom he loves, as evidenced in 'Grundelesque' when he dotes on his younger brother Casey, and waves off his mother's car with a smile and a kind word.  He has ambitions to become a doctor of some kind, and dreams about unveiling a groundbreaking invention in 'In Your Dreams'.  For me, Roland's most revealing episode is 'Sonic Youth', in which his mind is altered by the spellbinding music of Siren.  When his noble character has gone, then we really start to miss it!
Picture
Garrett Miller
Voice: Jason Marsden
Garrett is a paraplegic athlete who likes basketball in particular, disabled from birth and genuinely content to be in a wheelchair.  He is an extrovert with a huge amount of enthusiasm and a strong sense of humour, sometimes at the expense of others.  He claims to be fearless (despite his claustrophobia being revealed in 'Fear Itself'), and is fiercely independent, though he is happy to accept and even ask for help on occasions when he finds himself unable to move about in his chair.  He occasionally seems to have aspirations towards fame, but in 'Grease' he is revealed to have a more realistic ambition of becoming a physical therapist.  The most revealing episode for Garrett is 'The True Face of a Monster', in which he is reunited with an old friend from his home in Brooklyn, and we see that his sense of fun and adventure stops somewhere between illegally parachuting off a tall building and hate crime.
Picture
Eduardo Rivera
Voice: Rino Romano
On the surface, Eduardo is a slacker who is usually grumpy and doesn't seem to care about anything.  He is often teased by his teammates for seeming to lack intelligence and/or courage, but he has been seen to display both of these qualities when it really matters.  He is reluctant to reveal anything personal about himself, and will not join in when the others start talking about their feelings.  However, an eagle-eyed EGB fan might notice that he is sensitive to the others' teasing, he wants to do better in his classes, he loves his nephew and his feelings for Kylie are beginning to run deeper than he may at first have imagined.  The most revealing episode for Eduardo is 'Rage', in which we see his difficult relationship with his older brother, authoritarian police officer Carl(os) who disapproves of the Ghostbusters and wants Eduardo to be a cop like himself and their (most probably late) father.  Carl and Garrett call him 'Eddie', for various reasons, but he clearly prefers Eduardo.
Picture
Egon Spengler
Voice: Maurice LaMarche
Since the original Ghostbusters broke up, Egon has been living in the firehouse, and now teaches a sparsely attended paranormal phenomena class at the New York Community College (from which the new team is recruited).  He is an eccentric genius who loves science more than anything, except possibly Janine.  He acts as researcher, advisor and mentor to the new team of Ghostbusters, with sometimes a huge contribution in the field, because he's still got it!  Egon's most revealing episode for me is 'The Sphinx', in which he shows his insecurities about getting older, and then punches right through them.
Picture
Janine Melnitz
Voice: Pat Musick
Janine is, and always has been, the Ghostbusters' secretary.  Sharp and tenacious, she is dauntless in her role, with the ability to stay on top of her immense workload and to shoulder a proton pack when the need arises.  If she has a weakness, it is her love for Egon, of which she makes no secret.  After all this time she hasn't given up on their relationship, and rightly so, because Egon definitely loves her too.  Janine's most revealing episode for me is 'The Crawler', in which she shows her vulnerability, and needs Egon to help her bring out her strength.
Picture
Slimer
Voice: Billy West
The firehouse's resident ghost, Slimer is a pet and/or friend to the Ghostbusters in general and (nowadays at least) Egon in particular.  He loves to eat, and is childlike in his sensitivity and affection.  He is also keen to help, and makes valuable contributions to the team such as fetching and carrying, and convincing unhelpful sceptics in the existence of ghosts.  Slimer's most revealing episode is 'Simer's Sacrifice', in which he plays a significant role, and takes a bigger step forward in his relationship with Eduardo than anyone else seems to manage!
