Episode Guide
Episodes are listed in original airing order, each with a brief plot summary in my own words. For a personal touch, I have also included a sentence or two on my opinion of each episode, and a rating out of five. These are of course entirely subjective, and the use of italics distinguishes them from the factual information.
Update: Thanks to the DVD release of 2024, I am also able to give the production number for each episode.

Production order: 1
Kylie, Garrett, Roland and Eduardo attend their first class with Professor Egon Spengler, while workmen have released the demon Achira from her underground prison. Egon, reunited with old flame/secretary Janine, sends Roland, Garrett and Eduardo to fight Achira, who has been busy possessing Kylie.
A fantastic opening episode, but the best is yet to come.
EGB Fan's Rating: 4/5
Written by Billy Brown, Dan Angel and Dean Stefan
2. Darkness at Noon, Part 2
Production order: 2
Kylie, possessed by the demon Achira, is infecting people with a supernatural disease in preparation for the end of civilisation. Once the new Ghostbusters have freed her from possession, Kylie joins the team, and they set out to defeat Achira.
Still up to the standard of Part 1, and still without enough time to find the very best just yet.
EGB Fan's Rating: 4/5
Written by Billy Brown, Dan Angel and Dean Stefan
3. The True Face of a Monster
Production order: 7
Garrett is reunited with childhood friend Spence, who keeps him away from the Ghostbusters' current investigation. A synagogue has been targeted by vandals, and a golem has come to its defence.
A loaded episode with an intelligent plot and rich in characterisation.
EGB Fan's Rating: 5/5
Written by Bob Skir and Marty Isenberg
4. Fear Itself
Production order: 3
The Ghostbusters must enter a basement in which a demon materialises one's deepest fear. The team must work together to overcome their worst nightmares: maggots, death, confined spaces, equipment turning incredibly weird and, in Slimer's case, steamed broccoli.
An absolute gem with oodles of great characterisation. Plenty of plot, excitement and humour.
EGB Fan's Rating: 5/5
Written by Duane Capizzi
5. Deadliners
Production order: 4
A group of demons is performing unlicensed surgery on people to turn them into freaks. Meanwhile, children's horror writer J.N. Kline has gone into seclusion. It's up to Kline superfan Eduardo to identify the monsters as the author's own creations, and Kylie to realise they are the Vathack, channelled into our world by writing.
An exciting, funny and rather disturbing episode, with cool supernatural antagonists and great characterisation.

6. Casting the Runes
Production order: 5
Professional thief Steve Rifkin gets away from a museum robbery with only a bag of Runes, and finds himself with the power to banish people to the world of the demon god Kahlil. The Ghostbusters must find a way to defeat Kahlil and bring the victims back.
A solid episode, very enjoyable, with satisfying plot and good characterisation.

7. The Infernal Machine
Production order: 6
Luco, a demon who inhabits machinery, possesses a boy's toy robot. The Ghostbusters must battle machine after machine in an attempt to capture the demon, until it appears to be gone... but where? A short time later, Roland feels a powerful urge to build the ultimate machine.
Another solid episode with plenty of action, some compelling characterisation of Roland, and a good dose of humour.

8. Home Is Where the Horror Is
Production order: 8
Two children disappear when they try selling their candy bars in a house that isn't just haunted – it's a demon itself. The Ghostbusters must find and free the boys, and then defeat the house before it makes a meal of them.
Slightly lacking in characterisation, but a great little adventure and very engaging.
EGB Fan's Rating: 3/5
Written by Neil Ruttenberg
9. Killjoys
Production order: 13
A demon is feeding on people's laughter, and taking the people with it. It even looks like a clown, in case it has to induce the laughter itself. Eduardo has a point to prove, and traps the clown. Unfortunately it has friends, and they know just who should replace the trapped demon.
An engaging, plot-driven episode with plenty of characterisation.
EGB Fan's Rating: 4/5

10. The Unseen
Production order: 18
The Orb of Moldova has come to New York, and the demon Tenebrach is taking the eyes of anyone who sees it. Eduardo and Kylie, out trying to retrieve Kylie's lost proton gun (and losing Eduardo's in the process), must face Tenebrach with no weapons when their fellow Ghostbusters are arrested for armed robbery.
Pure gold for any Eduardo and Kylie shipper, and a fabulous plot to fuel their interaction.
EGB Fan's Rating: 5/5
Written by Siobhan Byrne
11. The Crawler
Production order: 9
The insect demon Kohela comes to New York and takes on human form in order to look for a queen. He targets Janine, who is in a state of mind to try and make Egon jealous.
A very good episode, played for lots of laughs. Huge focus on Egon and Janine, which is fine but not what I most want to see.
EGB Fan's Rating: 4/5
Written by Steve Slavkin
12. The Pied Piper of Manhattan
Production order: 10
The Ghostbusters are at a loss when they find that their weapons are ineffective against a huge ghost invasion. Enter Piper, who can call the entities away with his music. In his gratitude, and after a hostile encounter with the Ghostbusters, Mayor McShane decides to trust Piper and pay him handsomely for his work.
A solid episode with some nice moments (my personal highlight is learning that McShane apparently once threw up on then-Prince Charles).
EGB Fan's Rating: 3/5
Written by Steve Cuden
13. Be Careful What You Wish For
Production order: 12
The demon Duophanes, in the guise of a salesman, is twisting people's wishes into something horrible. When Eduardo unwittingly speaks to the demon and ends up in the body of Kylie's beloved cat Pagan, Kylie will stop at nothing to get him out.
An insightful, funny, engaging and overall wonderful episode for any Eduardo and Kylie shipper (even though she never really stops being miffed with him!).
EGB Fan's Rating: 5/5
Written by Lara Runnels and Patricia Carr
14. Grease
Production order: 15
Whilst in pursuit of a gremlin, the Extreme Ghostbusters get on the wrong side of an officious FBI agent and his sidekick. Events lead to the tem getting arrested and handcuffed to an FBI plane. Not only that, but Agent Stone lets the gremlin loose to do its work.
An action-packed, gag-filled episode with plenty of laughs.
EGB Fan's Rating: 5/5

15. The Jersey Devil
Production order: 28
Driving through Jersey whilst on spring break, the Ghostbusters aggravate the Jersey Devil, a metal-based demon that destroys non-organic matter with its breath. The team must try to defeat it with no weapons, and only one ally among the disgruntled townspeople: local museum curator and 'JD' expert Ben.
An enjoyable episode, and interesting for being a bit different, but nothing to shout about.
EGB Fan's Rating: 3/5
Written by Ernie Altbacker and James Krieg
16. Dry Spell
Production order: 16
A demon that inhabits water is feeding on life force from the people of New York, and draining their bodily fluids as well. The Ghostbusters soon capture it, but oceanographer Francois Rousseau tricks Eduardo into letting him steal the ghost trap, believing the demon will bring him unlimited research grants.
A fairly dull plot, extremely hard on Eduardo for the most part, and teaches a bad lesson in apportioning blame.
EGB Fan's Rating: 1/5

17. Sonic Youth
Production order: 17
The Ghostbusters capture a banshee, not knowing that she has a siren sister who steals youth from humans and feeds it to her. When Roland falls under Siren's spell, his obsession compels him to reunite her with her sister.
A spotlight episode for Roland, but not great for his character, and the episode overall lacks a spark for me.
EGB Fan's Rating: 2/5
Written by Greg Pincus
18. Ghost Apocalyptic Future
Production order: 19
Kylie is caught in a time slip and swaps places with Isaac, a ghost fighter from the future. She must work with her friends in the past to put things right, impeded by the efforts of Tempus, who is determined to open the containment unit and start the 'ghost war' that originally caused the not-so-bright future.
Some nice moments for shippers, but mostly style over substance, and it never really catches fire.
EGB Fan's Rating: 2/5
Written by Steve Perry
19. Bird of Prey
Production order: 20
The son of a New Oslo farmer releases the Hraisvelg to bring rain to feed the crops. However, the Hraisvelg proves impossible to control, and uses its weather powers to wreak havoc.
A bit dull overall, but it does have some great Eduardo and Kylie moments during the denouement.
EGB Fan's Rating: 3/5
Written by Mark Hoffmeier
20. Seeds of Destruction
Production order: 23
When Garrett annoys Kylie with his views on plant preservation, she has a point to prove, and convinces herself that the plant demon running amok in New York is the benevolent yet dangerously confused Kuja. Garrett just wants to nuke it – but which of them is right?
Good for Kylie and Garrett's relationship in some ways, but they are overall rather too antagonistic. A mixed bag for Eduardo.

21. The Luck of the Irish
Production order: 14
A leprechaun is out to retrieve his gold from the descendants of the people who stole it from him, a group called the Sons of Aaron. The Ghostbusters must defeat him, not to mention the bad luck jinx he's put on Garrett, if Mayor McShane is going to get through his St. Patrick's Day Parade appearance alive.
A fun episode with a good plot.
EGB Fan's Rating: 3/5

22. The Ghostmakers
Production order: 11
Demons are escaping from a mirror world and inhabiting human bodies. When Eduardo's spirit is ejected, he can only watch while the demon inside his body targets the rest of the Ghostbusters, in preparation to take over the whole human race.
Somewhat contrived with some lazy writing, but includes perhaps the best examples of how the characters react realistically to shocks and dangers.
EGB Fan's Rating: 3/5
Written by Mark Amato
23. Slimer's Sacrifice
Production order: 21
When the demon Fenris freezes and short circuits a ghost trap, the ghosts in the containment unit have a way out, until Slimer sends them back – locking himself inside. While the others track down Fenris, Eduardo – feeling bad about his earlier treatment of Slimer – goes into the containment unit after him.
A solid beginning, a golden middle (including the best interplay Eduardo and Roland will ever have), and an intense denouement.
EGB Fan's Rating: 5/5

24. Grundelesque
Production order: 22
It seems there is a Grundel targeting children, but the one and only Grundel is in the containment unit. Kylie just has to talk to him and, with Roland's help, she does so. She learns what became of her missing childhood friend Jack, but in the process, Roland's little brother Casey is put in danger.
A compelling, revealing and intelligent episode, huge in characterisation for Kylie and Roland.

25. In Your Dreams
Production order: 25
The demon Morpheus is entering the waking world via people's dreams and radio rant show host Barry Sherman. The Ghostbusters must face him in their nightmares just like everyone else, but they can't get to him on the conscious plane while his form is incomplete.
An engaging episode with plenty of characterisation to enjoy, and some fun Ghostbuster dreams, including a very shippy one with some subsequent payoff.

26. Moby Ghost
Production order: 24
A serpentine demon called Lotan is bringing New York to its knees by causing the machinery to go haywire, including the Ghostbusters' equipment. It's difficult to know what to do until the appearance of Macrob, a large and ferocious man in a boat, whose mission is to destroy Lotan.
Lots of fun and nothing at all wrong with it.

27. Fallout
Production order: 29
A demon has escaped from a uranium mine and is on the rampage, looking for radioactive matter to eat. If it gets enough, it will become toxically radioactive. It's up to the Ghostbusters to stop it. Unfortunately, that demon just loves proton.
A solid, plot-driven episode with little characterisation but lots of humour.

28. Eyes of a Dragon
Production order: 34
A young woman in Chinatown tries to sell the eyes from a dragon statue when her father is being victimised by a protection racket. However, taking the eyes releases the demon Gu-Mo; he possesses the merchant and sets about stealing people's bones from their bodies. Of course, the Ghostbusters are called.
Nice ideas but not well executed. Characterisation feels flat.

29. 'Til Death Do Us Start
Production order: 36
Leonard Bates, a rich but lonely accountant, finds a wishing well in his new house's outbuilding and ruefully wishes for a wife. What he gets is a demon who wants to suck out his life force. Leonard seeks the help of the Ghostbusters, but his ghost is a particularly stubborn one.
Fantastically well-structured plot, the fullest use of a victim character you'll find, and astonishing moments of characterisation. My joint favourite (with 'Rage').

30. Glutton for Punishment
Production order: 37
People start getting a serious case of the munchies when they eat food infected by energy-sucking demon Ravana. It's making them eat even more heartily than Slimer does – and when Slimer himself samples the goods, his appetite turns into something more than the Ghostbusters can handle.
A plot reliant on a writing trope that I don't engage with (i.e. everyone suddenly hating one character), and nothing worthwhile in the way of characterisation.

31. Ghost in the Machine
Production order: 27
A demon is disturbed when the oil well it inhabits is reopened. The well has been previously been closed for being haunted, but not this time. Gasoline from the oil makes it all the way to the filling stations, and then into vehicles. What is more, the Ecto-1 is running low on gas.
Lazy writing, poor characterisation and such a stupid subplot (Janine's baking).
EGB Fan's Rating: 1/5

32. Dog Days
Production order: 32
Dogs all over New York have started going berserk. Egon discovers that they are not locally possessed, so the Ghostbusters must track down the entity that's controlling them.
Boring plot and poor characterisation.

33. Mole People
Production order: 33
When lightning demons reawaken underground after centuries, they make the best of it and feed off the power lines. New York is not happy, and the 'mole people' living under the city are used as a scapegoat. One, Persefineathious, seeks the Ghostbusters' help when her father is arrested – and gets very fond of Garrett.
Persefineathious/'Steffi' is at the heart of this episode, and unfortunately I just don't like her. I do like (well, love) Eduardo, for whom this is a bad one.

34. A Temporary Insanity
Production order: 35
A frustrated Janine takes an impromptu vacation, and the firehouse begins to fall apart. When the Ghostbusters call the only temp who'll work for them, a woman called Lilith, things start to go much better – and perhaps even a little too well, as Janine suspects upon her return.
Well-intentioned towards Janine and Slimer, but overall boring and with zero characterisation for any of the EGBs.

35. Rage
Production order: 26
Two things are happening: self-replicating trolls are terrorising the city, and Egon moves in with Eduardo while the firehouse is being fumigated. The Ghostbusters must not only fight the ever-expanding troll epidemic, but also deal with Eduardo's distinctly anti-Ghostbuster older brother Carl.
Astonishing, intelligent and overall my joint favourite episode (with ''Til Death Do Us Start'), with massive insights into Eduardo.

36. Heart of Darkness
Production order: 31
The Ghostbusters encounter some ghosts-turned-burglars who are out collecting crystal skulls and a laser for an unknown purpose. One of the skulls belongs to and old associate of Egon's named Edward Kirillian, who once had some pretty cruel ideas about how to use ghosts to his own advantage.
Poor characterisation which suffers from being overly ambitious, and a very boring plot.

37. Back in the Saddle, Part 1
Production order: 39
The original Ghostbusters are visiting for Egon's birthday, and can't resist reliving old times by going out on a bust. Then the new team encounters a most inconvenient demon that 'reforms and duplicates' after it's trapped. All eight Ghostbusters must work together and find a way to defeat it.
Okay, but eight Ghostbusters mean that characterisation is spread too thinly. I am bored by the formulaic tension between the old and new teams.

38. Back in the Saddle, Part 2
Production order: 40
There's a lot of fog around. Not only is it keeping Ray and Winston from flying out of New York; it's also devouring everything in its path. The Ghostbusters have a dangerous entity on their hands. It's about to destroy the world, and it won't be trapped because it's 'just too darn big'!
Still not huge in characterisation but some shippy moments, the eight Ghostbusters working well together throughout, and a more interesting plot than Part 1.

39. The Sphinx
Production order: 38
Egon is feeling his age, and tries to prove to himself that he can keep up physically with the younger Ghostbusters. This leads to trouble when they encounter the Sphinx from Ancient Greece, but then again, that's an entity that requires wits to defeat it.
Funny, cool monster and good characterisation of Egon in particular. Too little focus on the EGBs to make me love it.

40. Witchy Woman
Production order: 30
Three teenage witches are seeking a fourth believer to 'complete their circle' so they may gain access to all the power of the demon Cernunos. Kylie seems the perfect choice, but when she refuses to join, the young witches use Eduardo's infatuation to recruit him instead.
Some interesting ideas and a lot of potential, but characterisation is dire, particularly for my beloved Eduardo.
